The voice was faint, hoarse, almost like a whisper swallowed by the air. But to Vania, it struck like a lightning bolt straight to her heart.

Her body froze. She quickly turned toward the hospital bed, eyes wide as she saw Devandra’s lips move again.

“Dev?”

She bent over, fingers gripping his hand tightly.

“Baby, are you awake? Are you really awake?”

Devandra’s eyes opened slowly. His gaze was still blurry and sluggish, but there was unmistakable life in them. His eyes wandered around the room before stopping right on Vania’s face.

“Vania…”

This time it was clearer. More certain.
