Chapter 6 : Divorced

Chapter 6 : Divorced

VICTORIA~

"What is happening, Victoria? Has it come to this?" He asked dumbfoundedly, mouth agape, his eyes darting between me and Mr. Wilson.

A smirk crept across my lips as I watched him in shock.

"Are you surprised?" I chuckled slightly and sighed.

"Well, don't be. It is what it is, Brandon. I'm tired of your infidelity, and I've chosen to walk away from this marriage so you don't infect me with an STD."

"No way you're going to do this to me, Victoria. We've been together for so long to be separated so suddenly like this."

"I don't care how long we've been together; my happiness matters."

"Okay, I promise never to speak with Elese again in my life," he begged, dropping to his knees.

When he realized I wasn't willing to listen, he swallowed hard, his eyes closing for a moment.

"Well, I'll sign the divorce papers. It's clear that you were never pregnant but were using a ruse to manipulate me into begging you and staying away from Elese."

"How low can you go?" he chuckled, taking the pen from the lawyer and signing the paper.

"Congratulations Mr. Brandon and Ms. Victoria. From now henceforth you're are legally divorced. No more Mr. and Mrs. Brandon."

"Let me know when you'll come for the certificate," Barrister Wilson remarked, handing each of us a copy.

"I think my job here is done. I'll take my leave now," he said, standing up and exiting the room, leaving just Brandon and me.

I was heartbroken, even though I was the one who made this choice. It's hard to forget someone you truly love.

It's difficult to let go of someone you've devoted yourself to for years just because of a loose girl he got entangled with in her web of lust.

"Now it's time to leave. I was foolish to beg earlier. I'm now free from this bondage. I can happily move in with Elese here and enjoy the rest of my life with her," said Brandon.

He crumpled the paper like it was worthless before tossing it into his pocket and turning to walk into his room.

Meanwhile, I stood there, shattered, contemplating how to start a new life. I wasn't worried about financial issues but about staying single after so many years of togetherness with Brandon.

It hurts, especially knowing that I'm pregnant.

I didn't want to move back in with my parents because I knew it would hurt them more than it would hurt me.

As Brandon walked halfway into his room and realized I was still standing there, he stopped and turned to me.

"Do you want some compensation? I bet your shares of our joint properties won't be enough for you."

"How much would be enough for you?" he asked, waiting for a response, but I remained silent.

"I see you're too shy to say it." He let out a feigned giggle.

"Well, give me a few minutes," he said, rushing into his room and returning a few moments later with a credit card in his hand.

"Here is a credit card with two million dollars. Use it to rebuild your life. Just remember, we have nothing in common anymore, so I don't know you from now on," he stated, holding out the card for me to take, but I didn't.

After waiting for a few seconds and receiving no response, he dropped the card on the floor, saying, "Pick it up when you're ready."

"Also, remember that the queen of the house will be home soon. Leave before she arrives to spare yourself some embarrassment."

With that, he turned and left.

I watched him head to his room without a hint of guilt. He wasn't sad about the divorce, nor did he show any sign of missing me. This made me conclude that he never truly loved me.

After standing there for a while, I gathered the courage to walk into my room to pack my belongings.

While packing, I paused to book a cab online on my phone.

I didn't want to hail a cab on the street, as it would attract unnecessary questions. People would suspect I was leaving Brandon.

After about half an hour, I was done with the packing and began taking my luggage downstairs one by one.

I didn't bother to call any of the servants, as I didn't want their pity.

"Ma'am, you should have told us instead of doing this yourself. Please wait while I help." One of the servants rushed to me, trying to take the bag I was carrying on my head, but I stopped him.

"Don't worry, I can manage," I said, forcing a smile to hide my pain.

It took me fifteen minutes to bring most of my luggage downstairs. It was remaining just one but I was already exhausted.

I sat on the pavement, taking a moment to rest.

While sitting there, I scrolled through social media on my phone.

Unexpectedly, I found myself on Brandon's account, something I had promised myself I wouldn't do again to avoid seeing his happy photos with Elese.

He had posted today with a caption, "I am the happiest man alive today. I've been in bondage for years, but I have just been set free. Moving into a new beginning."

To make matters worse, he tagged Elese in the comments, and she responded with a heart emoji.

Pain shot through me as I read that.

"I hope I have the strength to get through this," I whispered, standing up to go inside and retrieve my last bag before leaving the city.
