The moment his scent was locked on to, both Lucien and I broke into a sprint. The rubble of the ruined building stretched ahead of us, smoke rising in curling plumes, flames still snapping from the wreckage here and there. But none of it would be enough to stop either of us from getting what we came for.

As we vaulted a chunk of rock I felt Lucien at my side, then felt his weight slam against mine as he tried to shoulder me off course.
