I wasn’t scared when the thought first crossed my mind. Not really. It was just a passing shadow. A flicker of possibility.
But there I was, hand on the doorknob to Ronan’s room, staring at the polished wood like it might strike back. Like the second I opened it, someone might be waiting on the other side with a knife. Or worse, Ronan might walk through the front door right at that moment and catch me.
Not that I had anything to be guilty of. Not really.
But I still let go of the knob slowly, fingers slack with hesitation, and turned away.
