She stayed dead silent the entire walk back to the manor. The frown etched into her features hadn’t faded since we left the ruins of her cottage.

 

“You are staying in my chambers tonight,” I repeated as we stepped through the manor gates. My voice left no room for argument. At least, that was the plan.

 

She shot me a glare, the worry melting into sheer defiance. “No!” she spat.

 

I stopped in my tracks, looking down at her. “It wasn't a request, Anika. Someone broke into your home. They stole your belongings. What if they come for you next? You’ll stay under my watch...
