As I drove back home, my mind brought back flashes of Elena's eyes which seemed to pierce deep into my soul, as if she could see through the darkness within.

All of my charms which had always worked before, now felt forced. Or maybe they never worked in the first place. My guts were right about her feelings for Lucas. Have I been a pawn in my own game?

I sensed the wall between us, a barrier I feared I could no longer breach.

As I continued to watch Elena from afar, the sense of detachment felt even stronger. It's not as if I cared about her feelings....
