Chapter 30

He sincerely hope his mum will give up the idea of getting him together with Charlotte. He only sees her as a friend. Now that he was standing fully in front of her, Charlotte took the time to take in his appearance. He grew a few inches since she last saw him, his jet black hair was messy in a way, his tan skin standing out, with muscles bulging out, he looked way too hot in the sweatpant and shirt. Charlotte have always had a crush on Xavier but she didn't reveal it because she was scared of getting rejected. Like him, she also had her pride anyways.

When he got engaged five years ago, she was furious, she thought he would end the relationship with his ex just like he has always done but she was shocked on hearing about the news about his engagement instead of his breakup. Thankfully, it didn't push through and she still had a chance now. Her mum informed her about Xavier not being married yet after all these years, then she knew she could not let this opportunity slip by her. Now would be a chance to win his heart when he has no woman in mind.

Xavier also looked at Charlotte, she was beautiful in her own way but the idea of dating her never came to his mind however. They looked like they were having a staring competition. "Are you just going to continue staring at me? I know I'm beautiful though but don't make it obvious", Charlotte winked at him.

Xavier scoffed. As if. Even if he didn't like her, they were good friends so that won't change. He moved towards his kitchen and brewed a coffee for her spiking up a conversation, "So how has your days been in the states, got a boyfriend yet?" He handed the coffee over to her. Charlotte wanst expecting the sudden question, was he interested in her?

She replied casually,"It's been really great and nope, no boyfriend yet" She turned the question back on him,"I bet you have multiple girlfriends right?" She was silently praying he would say no. She didn't want another woman in the picture. It would make things difficult. Xavier paused for a while and replied shortly,"No". Charlotte was pleased in hearing that," You are not getting any younger you know? We both are". She hoped he would take the hint but either he was clueless or he didn't want to respond because he remained silent after that.

She switched the question immediately,"How is the company? Being a young CEO must be tough huh?" She remembered his dad gave him the company to handle. Xavier closed his eyes, when he opened them anyone could tell he looked stressed out. "The company seems to give me a lot of troubles nowadays, who would have thought handling a company could be so hard". He was truly frustrated at the problems honestly. Charlotte asked," Something happened?" She could sense something wasn't right.

Xavier nodded. His family already know anyways and maybe the whole company, no need to hide it any longer. "Yes, the company faced a major loss recently, I found out that A total of one million dollars got missing from the company". Charlotte gasped,"How did that happen?!" That was surely a huge amount of money. " I suspect someone has a hand in this, he always find ways to take the shares in the company, besides he was even the one who informed my shareholders about the news even before I did so it can only be him". Xavier was surely going to make Mr herewith pay for putting him through this stress.

"What are your plans?" Charlotte wasn't expecting this kind of news upon her arrival, she thought they would be having a good laugh by now and recall memories from the good ol' days but instead she's here listening to sad news.

"Well, I plan on sidetracking him and getting him to confess to what he has done then recording it and having it as a solid evidence, that way everyone would know he was behind it all after hearing his voice" Xavier said. Charlotte was amused by his plan,"Nice one Xavier, I always knew you got it in you, so smart".

Xavier smiled and replied,"Actually I wasn't the one who innovated the whole plan". Charlotte got confused,"Who?" They were currently seated on the couch opposite each other. Xavier leaned back on the back of the couch and responded,"My secretary did, Amber". He smiled just by the thought of her. His action didn't go unnoticed by Charlotte. Who the hell was Amber? She has got to find out. If she could make him smile like this then she was probably more than a secretary to him. Her jealous instincts immediately kicked in, just when she thought there was a chance for her now that he had no woman on his mind. She was wrong yet again.

After chatting a little, Charlotte finally left his house but not without a plan of her own. She planned on finding out who Amber is, she sure hoped he wasn't important to her as she thought. Xavier went back to his room, he went back to work, his thoughts was filled with how he was going to make Mr herewith confess to the crimes, he had to execute his plan tomorrow anyways, he didn't have much time left. After setting and plotting out how he was going to achieve his plan, he couldn't find sleep. His mind drifted to Amber, he wondered if she was awake yet. He decided to give her a call.

She answered after the third ring, he was glad she was still awake. But it wasn't Amber who answered but Jenna. "Hello, my mum is not awake at the moment, Call later thank you"

He chuckled and realized how much he missed the bubbly child. Before Jenna could drop the call, he replied,"Jenna?". Jenna recognized his voice instantly,"Mr handsome?" She couldn't remember his name anyway so she went with what she named him. Xavier smiled and responded,"Yes, why are you awake at this hour?" It was 9:00pm probably past her bedtime. Jenna couldn't go to bed, her event show was fast approaching and she hadn't even memorized half of her lines, she needed someone to aid her so she could grab it fast.

She felt sad, if the script was given to her siblings, they would have memorized it by now without any issue, why was she the odd one out?

"Well, I have no one to practice my lines with, my mum and Aunt are sleeping and my siblings will probably feel like I am troubling then anyway". Xavier could sense her sadness throught the phone, he didn't know how he was going to help. "I can help you if you want". He didn't know what he was thinking offering to help a child he barely knew, when he even had bigger issues if his own to face.

Jenna's face instantly brightened,"Seriously? Yayyyy" She suddenly felt glad she picked up her mum phone. "Okay so here is how it will go, I will say ask some questions then you reply 'Yes fairy godmother' understood?" Xavier suspected she got the role of a fairy godmother. He replied back," Yes fairy godmother". Jenna squealed in delight. And so they spent the next hour rehearsing with Xavier responding with 'yes fairy godmother'. He checked his time and saw it was 10:20pm. The child needed to go to bed. He urged her to go to bed, although she refused at first, she later agreed.

"Thank you Mr handsome! I'm pretty sure I can say my lines without looking at the script now, Oh and you're invited to the show, it's holding on Friday by 2:00pm, Do not miss it okay?!" Jenna hopes he would come, he has been of great help to her, it was only right to invite him. Xavier didn't want to make promises just yet, Friday was going to be a tight day for him anyway, that's when his biggest issue will be addressed. When Jenna didn't get his response, she thought he was going to refuse her request so she urged on,"Please?"

Just that word alone made him agreed, "I'll be there, you can go to bed now". Jenna squealed once again,"Okay I'll join my family now, goodnight" She hung up.

Xavier smiled and dropped his phone. He was going to try and grace the occasion to not let her down. He suddenly got bothered by the thought of Charlotte's arrival. She didn't have a boyfriend, he knows once his mother gets a hold of that fact, she would try everything she could to merge them together. He can't let that happen. Charlotte was just a friend and nothing more. He also wished she doesn't have any feelings for him otherwise things were going to get messy. He closed his eyes and drift off to sleep.

Amber woke up and was surprised not seeing her phone on the nightstand, it was her routine to check her phone anytime she wakes up. She darted her eyes around her room in search of the phone. She looked towards the kids and saw the phone beside Jenna bed. Oh no. She had a bad feeling about this and silently prayed Xavier didn't call. She stood up from the bed and took the phone, she opened the call log immediately, her prayers weren't answered as Xavier's name was the first one she saw.

She always have her calls recorded so she checked her files and listened to their call. 1 hour long! What were they taking about? She played the recording and skipped some unimportant parts to the part where Xavier responded 'yes fairy godmother' to every word Jenna said. She relaxed her mind a bit and was deeply touched, Xavier actually helped her kid memorize her lines. Jenna kept on asking her the other day if she could help her but Amber was too tired so she refused, but Xavier actually helped.

She stopped the recording when Jenna turned. Jenna opened her eyes to find her mum standing beside her bed holding her phone. She remembered she didn't drop the phone where she saw it. Jenna sat up on her bed and faced her mum"I'm sorry mum, Mr handsome called yesterday and I answered it, he even helped me with my scripts". Amber nodded and ruffled her head. She wondered why Xavier called her though. She bathed the kids one by one and arranged their breakfast and food silently cursing Sophia for not being here to help her out. She rushed her bath and dressed in a black pencil and a white button up top. She decided to just dress extra good today not knowing why.

She took the kids to school and continued on her journey to the office. It was already 8:30am by the time she arrived. Sh**! She was late to work! Silently hoping Xavier would overlook her act she rushed upstairs. But she was surprised when she drew close to the office, she heard two voices. A male and a female. Was his mum here again? No this time the voice was younger and softer.

She could vaguely hear what they were saying

'Why isn't she here yet? Close to 9am and your secretary isn't here yet?' The voice said and Amber furrowed her brows. Just who the h*** was that. She is a single mother with triplets to handle alone!

'Maybe she got stuck in traffic' Xavier said. He didn't know why Charlotte was worked up about Amber being late to the office. He wasn't even angry.

'Stop defending her!' The voice said.

Amber felt like she had heard enough of the woman so she opened the door wide open. She was here. She can come at her now if she wants.
