Dylan held Ariel's hand and started to leave, walking out of the classy European-styled mansion. Ariel could feel the hateful glare of Dylan's grandfather and the other people around them.
'Am I doing the right thing? Is this not a mistake? Who knows what this people are capable of doing to me?'
But then she looked up at Dylan, and seeing the determined expression on his face, her mind was reassured a little bit. He looked like he would protect her no matter the odds. She remembered him as someone she used to know, but not who he was to her.
"Dylan Grey! If you step out of this house, don't even bother coming back! You have defiled me and everyone in this family you hold dear by being with that woman!"
Dylan stopped when he heard that, but he did not turn to look at his grandfather.
Dylan's Grandpa smirked, believing his words had finally reached Dylan. He thought his words scared Dylan.
"That's right, son. If you insist on marrying that woman, fine. You can go ahead, but I will not allow you to tarnish our family image so that I will disown you. Yes, I will remove your name from our family registrar, so try me!"
Dylan started to laugh. His Grandpa's eyes widened in shock when he heard him laugh.
"Why are you laughing? What's funny?"
"You know you can go ahead and do what you want to do. I don't care what happens. You know how many times you've threatened to disown me already?"
Grandpa stared at Dylan with shock and confusion.
"What?"
"Go ahead and disown me. Let's see who you will give the company when you die. I am your heir and the only efficient one at that. Or are you willing to give the company to Uncle's son, Bob? Who doesn't know the difference between multiplication and addition at age thirty? Or to Tommy, my second cousin, who can barely spend one hour working in an office? Come on, Grandpa, you know I'm your best shot. Don't waste it."
And with that, Dylan pulled Ariel behind him and walked out of the mansion.
He took her to his car, and they got inside.
Ariel turned to look at him.
"Now, I know you have many questions, but can we just have something to eat first?" said Dylan.
"Eat? How can you talk about food in all this mess?!"
"Well, aren't you hungry? All the drama of last night and this morning should have left you exhausted and hungry."
Dylan was right. Ariel did feel extremely hungry. She was starving. But it didn't mean she could forget about the underlying issues and go and eat. Besides, she needed to go back to her baby and her mother.
"Let me off. I need to get home. My mother and child are waiting for me. I'm worried about them."
"Are you sure you don't want to eat something with me? You look like you would faint if you didn't put something into your mouth."
"I'll be fine. Just let me off here. I will take a taxi home."
Dylan turned to the driver.
"Drive to Miss Ariel's home."
"What? You don't have to do that! I can drop here and take a Taxi to my house. It is not too far."
"It's okay. The driver would take us to your house."
"Dylan, or isn't necessary."
But Dylan didn't listen. He had the driver drive to her house, and as soon as they got there, Ariel jumped out of the car and fled into the house.
Ariel entered the house and saw her son, Paul, trying to reach something on the dining table, but he was too small.
"Paul! My love! My baby!"
When Paul saw her, he started to cry. Ariel ran to him and scooped him into her arms, comforting him.
"Mommy! Where were you?! Paul missed you!"
"It's okay, Mommy's here. Mommy's here."
"Ariel? You're back?"
Ariel turned in the direction of the voice and saw her mother, Esther, carrying a tray of food from the kitchen.
"Yeah, I'm sorry I went off like that."
Esther set the tray of food on the dining table.
"I was so worried. I tried calling you, but your line was switched off."
"I'm so sorry about that. My battery died."
"And who's this?" Esther asked, looking behind her.
"Who's who?"
Ariel turned and saw that Dylan had walked into the house. His big and flashy presence did not fit in such a small, humble house.
"He…he…"
Why was he in here?
Dylan looked up and saw Ariel and her mother and a baby. A baby that looked so much like….him?
Dylan's mind returned to his grandfather's words that afternoon about Ariel coming to their house and claiming she was pregnant for him.
"Ariel, is that…Is that my child?"
Ariel froze when she heard that. She also remembered when his grandfather had said that, and suddenly, it dawned on her that Dylan could be the father of her child.
She had forgotten the face of the man she had had a one-night stand with three years ago. But she remembered his house, which was the same as Dylan took her to this morning.
"It was you? You're the man who was drugged three years ago with me?"
"Three years ago? Yes, I had been drugged three years ago by my grandfather. He had wanted me to spend the night with Charity, a woman who I didn't love. But by fate, I ended up sleeping with a completely different woman that night. But I didn't remember her face."
Ariel was shocked. Her mother was shocked as well.
"Ariel? What's going on? Is this truly the father of your child?"
"I don't know yet, Mom. I don't quite remember him. It could have been any man in that mansion. I knew he visited the mansion regularly but didn't it was him."
"Well, there's only one way to find out."
"And what is that?"
"A DNA test."
