I stared at his expression to see if he was joking with me, but he maintained a tough stance, not even flinching his long lashes.  What the hell? He did call me his mate! But how was that even possible? I've been marked already by another werewolf; how could I possibly have a mate? The mating system doesn’t work this way, or does it? I wondered if he could read the surprise and confusion his last words just caused.
