The air in Nebraska was bland, dusty and filled with unfulfilled expectations.

I could tell by the exasperated looks on the faces of the people heading back to their homes that might have nothing but sadness in them. Couples who were supposed to be gazing at each other lovingly had nothing but despair blaring in their eyes.

It made me feel better. Seen. At least, I wasn’t the only one going through a heartbreak. Theirs might not be a case of betrayal and lies, but it had to be something else that could cause a separation between them if discovered.
