Chapter 6 Match-making

Chapter 6 Match-making

I climbed up the ladder and was trying to give a final touch-up to the decoration in the doorway. I was observing the beautiful delicate flowers which enhanced the beauty of the doorway when suddenly someone bumped into the ladder and I missed my footing and fell. I closed my eyes as there was no escape, but I was tightly held by strong arms when I was about to fall to the floor.

I slowly opened my eyes and saw Nick looking at me with concern. His hands were all around me and I could feel the burning sensation inside me. No one had the power to disturb my whole equilibrium and I closed my eyes again and tried to control myself.

‘Are you all right?’ Nick asked with concern while steadying me.

"I am fine," I said shakily and thanked him for saving me from falling.

Hearing the clatter everyone gathered around us. Yan, my subordinate asked if I was fine. I just shook my head, Nick was standing very close to me and it was very disturbing.

“Thank God you are okay Cassey, Teddy watches where you are walking, Lily started scolding him.

Teddy had slipped accidentally and looked apologetically at me and I just smiled and said not to worry and watch his step around.

Then Lily informed me that everything was done and they were ready to head back.

I just escaped from Nick and inspected everything around and was incredibly happy to see the desired outcome. I am sure Grandma Lisa will be happy. Then I went back to the hall and asked Nick to look around and see if the decorations were according to his taste.

He twitched his mouth surveyed everything and was pleased. He was surprised that Rio was very good with her work. The beautiful combination of light-coloured orchids, tulips, lavender, and roses was embedded together and its fragrance was breathtaking. He smiled and complimented her thoughtfully.

"Then if there is nothing else to do we will take your leave," I said politely and started to go out.

“Surely you will be coming to the party in the evening Miss Brown.” Nick enquired smilingly, though he knew the answer.

“I am sorry but I have a lot of other orders pending so I will not be able to make it but thank you for inviting me.”

Lily interrupted me and said, “But Cassey you said we can pack up for the day after we head back, you did not tell us that there was pending work.” she spoke unhappily.

Trust Lily for always saying things at the wrong time, I gritted my teeth and said, well I just remembered that we had to discuss the weekend fair, so shall we move now?

Lily looked at Nick and then at me and she rushed outside.

“Miss Brown, you should come to the party grandma Sam’s instructed me to personally invite you and I insist,” he said politely.

“Well I sincerely apologize but I need to finish up as there is a very short time left for the next order. But my sister will be coming with the cake so everything will be fine.” I said smilingly.

He just nodded his head. His expressions were unreadable.

And so, I left the villa with my team.

Nick stood watching the disappearing Van and said, ‘If you think you can escape me think twice Rio you are not dealing with the Nick you knew six years back.’ He then dialled his assistant's number and told him to come over.

Once they drove away from the villa Lily was watching Cassey sideways and spoke softly into Cassey's ear, ‘ Boss I think that guy has a thing for you. He was watching you for a long time. When you were busy with the decorations. I think he took a fancy to you.’

Cassey just looked at her smilingly and said, ‘Don’t start your match-making tactics here Lily or I will transfer you to the other shop.’ Lilly had a very annoying habit of match-making her and Beth with the numerous good-looking men who came to the shop for some business and who happened to be single.

That made her shut her mouth and she looked at Cassey and started thinking her boss is very pretty and she cares about everyone but when it comes to her personal life she is very aloof and it is high time that she starts dating and if this Nick guy is interested in her she would help him in courting her. The very thought made her smile cunningly.

Just as Cassey entered the boutique bad news was waiting for her. Beth rushed towards her and broke the news that their baker Mrs. Baker was not able to bake the cake as her son fell from the stairs and she had to rush to the hospital. Mrs. Baker was a very renowned baker and everyone in San Martin loved her cakes and we had tied her up with our company for special orders.

Beth said that she had called the other bakeries, but they were not ready to take the last-minute order.

I looked at her and thought if that day anything went wrong it would give a bad reputation for the boutique, and it was Grandma Lisa’s birthday she had to do something.

“ You need not worry, I will make sure that the cake arrives on time,” I assured Beth and told her to go to Edward's villa for the party and I will make sure that the cake reaches there on time.

I told her that I should get going as we needed to get the cake by evening and rushed out.

I got into the car and drove to the supermarket, I bought everything I needed and rushed towards my house.

Beth changed into a simple knee-length black skirt and a formal shirt and left her hair open. She had red hair, which made her beautiful face more attractive and she had a different aura about her. She looked seductively in the mirror and smiled at herself and went outside.

Everyone turned and looked at her and was mesmerized by her beauty. She just smiled and went out of the office.

Just as she was about to get into the car her phone started ringing and when she saw the caller she asked hurriedly, "Cassey did you manage to get the cake?

Cassey smiled and said, ‘It will arrive on time, don’t worry.

"Oh! Thank God for that, you saved us, or we were doomed," she said happily.

‘By the way, I forgot to tell you that the guy that we met at the mall yesterday, is Mrs. Edwards’s grandson. We have cleared the misunderstanding between us so do not say anything to him and good luck with the meeting with the mayor I hope he listens to your proposal.’ Cassey said.

"What! that crazy guy would be there too, alright I’ll try to behave myself, see you later and have your dinner on time." After that, she hung up.

Rio, on the other hand, was busy baking the blueberry strawberry cheesecake which was one of grandma Lisa’s favorites and it was mentioned in the order. Cassey had always been fond of baking cakes and experimented a lot when she was a teenager. She had also won awards at her school for being the best baker. She gave the final touch-up to the cake, it was a four-layered cake and looked very delicious. She remembered the time when grandma Lisa would take her out to the bakery near the lake and both of them would leisurely enjoy the cakes baked there. She smiled at the memories and hoped that grandma would be happy with the cake.

She picked up her phone and called up Teddy to come over and pick up the cake.

It took him twenty minutes to arrive at her doorstep as soon as he stepped inside with two other subordinates his gaze fell upon the cake and was taken aback.

“Did you bake the cake boss?” He enquired turning towards her.

I knew he would ask her that and she was prepared for it.

“I learned baking in college but never tried it professionally, this was a desperate measure in a desperate situation so do not look surprised I hope it tastes good.” I smiled and told him.

‘Are you kidding me this cake looks so delicious, I am sure it’s going to be a hit?’ Teddy said excitedly.

I looked at him and said. “ And Teddy you are not allowed to tell about this to anyone. I do not want to be famous this is a secret between the two of us.” I grinned at him.

He assured me that he will not tell anyone and left with the cake.

I sighed and started cleaning up the mess in the kitchen she had made and finally when everything was done, I went into the washroom to take bath.
