#Chapter5

Teya’s leg shook and bounced waiting for the sun to go down. Markees paced the room beside her anxious just as she was.

“Maybe we shouldn’t tell him.” He said.

Teya only looked up at him with disappointment on her face.

“Lie? How would you explain the hunters death at the headquarters? Ken needs to know. Salina is taunting him. She purposely left her scent on me.”

Markees wanted to disagree, but only from his inability to control Ken and Kenneth. They would go frantic once both of these brutes find out Salina threatened Teya.

“All I’m saying is maybe we should find another way to say it to them. You know how they are. They will go after her tonight to murder her. If she is behind the half breeds then we need to find her and stop them. If they kill her…”

A growl tore through the house. Markees shut his eyes knowing they already heard. The black lash was inevitable now. Teya stood as she knew the outcome. She blinked and both of her blonde tall fierce warrior vampire protectors were in the living room with them. Ken instantly went to her, grabbing her chin and inspecting her for any damages.

“She didn’t hurt me.” Teya was the first to speak as Ken rested his forehead against hers mentally cursing.

“Tell us what happened.” Kenneth demanded turning to Markees now for answers.

Markees sighed. “First I need a promise from both of you.” He didn’t want things to get worse.

“Just fucking tell us!” Ken screamed.

Markees stood his ground. “I have men dead. Dead, Ken you understand? They can’t revive like you. You make this personal will cause more bloodshed.” Markees spoke with reason, but of course Ken wasn’t hearing any of it.

He took a step towards Markees that caused Kenneth to hold his arm out in front of him to stop him.

“It’s pretty fucking personal if she threatened Teya.” Ken said through gritted teeth.

“It was only to make you go after her.” Teya spoke. “It wasn’t about me. It was the vampire she saved, Fredrick.”

“They freed him. Blood was all around the cell.” Markees explained. “This has to do with the half breeds. They are going through a lot just for one vamp.”

“That’s true. Explain how Salina was able to attack during the day.” Kenneth replied, now much calmer than Ken.

“It doesn’t matter.” Ken interrupted.

“Yes it does son. If she can walk during the day without the sun burning her we need to know how.” Kenneth placed a hand on Ken’s shoulders. “Just think. We have to catch her and we can’t if she has a power on us that we don’t.”

Ken steadied his breathing to calm himself, but he was still beyond pissed. Teya knew it would get much worse once he found out how.

“It’s your blood Ken. She said your blood changed her somehow.” Teya placed her arms around him to calm him even more.

Ken looked confused. “My blood? What’s so special about it?”

He looked to his father for the answers.

“No not your blood, but what you were. Half breeds contain the best of both worlds. It would make sense that the blood of a half breed will have the opposite effects on a vampire.” Kenneth informed, placing some of the pieces together.

Markees took a step. “That means they aren’t making an army. They’re using half breeds to walk in the sun.”

His eyes widen with that realization. Vampires walking in the sun would mean the hunters lose the war against peace amongst both species. The Vampire Hunters didn’t stand a chance.

“Salina mentioned something about Ken killing her being against the rules. What exactly did that mean?” Teya asked to Kenneth, who turned his head from his son in shame.

Ken turned him around to face him. “You know something don’t you?”

Kenneth sighed. “The rule number one of turning anyone into a vampire is that the venom can’t kill itself.”

Ken folded his arms in confusion. “Meaning I can’t kill my creator.”

“Or vice versa.”

He grabbed Kenneth’s collar. “Why didn’t you tell me this before? I spent months trying to find a way to kill her and now you tell me there isn’t one.”

“You needed to track her down because she changed you. Not because of the half breeds.”

Ken released him with a hard push, shaking his head in disbelief. “Even if I find her I can’t kill her.” He placed his hands through his hair with frustrations. “Is that the reason you didn’t kill Allen?” Kenneth’s eyes opened wide with surprise.

“Don’t act surprised. From everything you try not to tell me I placed the pieces together myself. You changed Allen that’s why he persuaded Ross to kill you. Makes sense now after I say it out loud.”

Teya looked surprised then. “Kenneth, is that true? How could you create such a monster?”

Kenneth turned to Markees to see if he had judgement in his eyes. “Let’s just say Allen wasn’t the only monster back in those times.”

“You fought him before though. So there is a chance I can hurt her.” Ken recalled the night he killed Allen. Kenneth had stepped in and punched him and Allen had even cut him. So how come killing him was impossible?

Kenneth sighed. “Allen and I couldn’t kill each other, but with time we have learned a way around the rule. I can beat the shit out of him and vice versa, but we won’t die. It takes centuries to learn though, I’m afraid.” There was a spark of hope that Kenneth just took away from his son that caused him to become disappointed.

“Centuries? How long were you in with that maniac?” Markees asked, shocked beyond words.

“Longer than I can count.”

Ken turned away again with a sarcastic laugh. “How come I can’t track her then? Every scent I follow leaves me back to that damn hell house.”

“It must be where her scent leaves off, but once she took your blood it might’ve mixed with hers.” Kenneth tried to make sense out of it, but no one was buying it.

“How much blood will she need to sustain herself?” Markees asked, placing his hand on his chin. Kenneth shrugged.

“The thirst takes over to bloodlust after a few days. Not even the most willed vampire, half breed or not, could last months without blood again.”

“What if she drank another half breeds blood. That could explain why Ken can’t find her.” Teya chimed in while the men all seemed defeated.

“It’s possible.” Kenneth replied, having a seat in the chair.

“She can find me, but I can’t find her. She already has gotten to close to Teya. This is personal for her. She’s always been dramatic.”

A location popped into Ken’s head while he was ranting. A place he knew she would be. The thought came to him so causally that he actually felt stupid for not thinking of it sooner. The only place that would be special to Salina and the only place he knew she would be.

“I can find her.” He stated, grabbing his jacket.

“I can come with you.” Kenneth offered.

“No. Just stay with Teya. I will be back soon.”

Teya opened her mouth to protest, but Ken was already gone. “Don’t worry Teya. My son will come back to you.” The insecure look was written all over her face. If Ken couldn’t kill her then she will have to find a way herself.

Ken ran for a few hours to the first house he knew before they came back to the hell house. Allen and Rosa traveled a lot, but always seemed to settle somewhere for a couple of years. This particular year they went up north to a small farm town. Ken was only ten or eleven at this time. Ken could remember the day he met Salina clearly.

Flashback

Ken walked with hesitation as they all approached the farm house. Allen, Rosa, and him. He could smell the blood of the cows and the humans nearby, taunting him. He wanted to touch the horses, but knew better than to ask or open his mouth with Allen close by.

“We are here.” Allen said as they saw the house come into view.

“Why are we here again Allen?” Rosa asked, folding her arms. “If it was that woman from the bar…”

Allen turned to her with a deadly look that made her shut up. No one questioned him. His eyes then looked down to the young Ken. His blonde unruly hair and his big blue sad eyes made Allen sick. Ken could tell by the look in his eyes. Why did he hate him so much? At the time Ken didn’t understand. Allen was the one thing he hated in his entire ten years of living. He would never forget about the elderly couple he killed.

“That woman took something from me.” He disappeared then with lightning speed towards the home.

Rosa sighed leaning down to Ken, grabbing his cheeks. “This is your life now got it?” Ken didn’t respond. “What do I always tell you?”

“Stay close, but out of sight. Don’t try to run.” He replied.

Rosa nodded, patting his head. “Good boy. You remember what happened last time right? We don’t want anymore innocent people hurt.”

Ken nodded agreeing. She was there for a split second and then gone the next. Ken waited until he could gather any courage he could to move. Every ounce of his body wanted to run through the corn fields and never look back, but he knew better. Allen had his scent and would hunt him down. He was out of options. His hyper hearing picked up on moving trucks coming towards the house.

His head turned to his five trucks surrounding the farm house Rosa and Allen ran towards. His eyes widen as he ran full speed towards the driveway. The newcomers were going to kill that family possibly for whatever the woman stole from Allen. In his youth Ken just wanted to save everyone. More importantly he really just wanted to save himself.

Men popped out of the black trucks with guns dressed like the mafia. Before anyone could see Ken coming towards them, he leapt into the air with a supernatural leap, knee first into one of the men sending him flying to the other trucks with a loud thud that caused plenty of attention. He made a loud cry as he kicked the other causing his head to hit the truck windshield breaking it.

“Who the fuck is that?”

Men began to panic as they begin to fire. “Go get the girl.” The leader yelled.

Ken hurried to take out as many as possible while dodging bullets with his amazing speed and agility. Allen had taught him to fight since he was five. He wasn’t as good as Allen yet, but he could take on these mafia men with no problem. A female girl walked out screaming.

“Stop my daughter didn’t do anything.”

Shots fired out at the woman as blood spilled. Ken ran towards the house to try and save her but a bullet hit his leg causing him to fall on the ground.

“Someone kill this fucking kid.”

Men surrounded Ken with guns pointed towards him. He just laid on the ground as the thought of death should scare a ten year old kid, but he wasn’t an ordinary kid. His leg was healing despite the pain it had caused, but he knew no matter how much vampire blood he had running through his veins, he couldn’t survive a bullet to the head. He was still human. A swift wind drifted upon the men as Allen took them out quickly and viciously, ripping heads and drinking the dripping blood.

He paused in the middle of his fun to squat to Ken. His foot stepped on his back. “You almost ruined this for me.”

He began to rotate his foot crushing his back more. “I’m sorry. I was trying to help.” Ken groaned through the pain. A shot fired aimed towards Allen’s head from a distant. His head snapped up as he quickly tilted to the right to allow the bullet to fly through his long black hair.

“Get in the house.” Allen commanded lifting his foot so Ken could run towards the door.

He obeyed running inside while Allen continued his torment. Rosa held onto to another woman. Ken assumed was the woman who stole something from Allen. Stupid mistake. Her eyes showed fear as she looked at Ken.

“Fuck a kid? What the fuck is going on?”

Rosa lifted the woman’s head by her hair. Ken studied the woman. She was a well tanned pretty white girl. A little to polished for a farmer. Her hair was well taking care of shoulder length with blonde streaks peering through her black strands. She was young.

In her early twenties with a full body to pull any man she wanted. Ken didn’t notice any of those things though. He saw through her to her soul. She was just as lost as he was.

“You stole from Allen and that costs you.” Rosa explained aggressively lifting her head to look at her.

“What? I didn’t!”

Rosa pushed the woman to the wall with a hard thud that knocked the wind out of her body.

“Stop lying. Where is the ring?” Allen’s voice was soft and intimidating as he walked forward with his Victorian coat floating as he walked.

He walked closer to her, placing his hands on her cheeks, just like Rosa did Ken right before the fighting started. His face was covered with blood as he moved closer to her with his long finger nail at her throat, threatening to cut.

“I don’t have it!” she cried, shaking and hyperventilating. Allen’s nail touched her cheeks causing blood to trickle.

Allen licked it causing her to cry even more. “Those men out there? Who were they?” he asked, grabbing her chin. “Do they have my ring?”

She didn’t reply. Allen smirked a sign of wickedness. His hands went to her breast and he cut her right above her nipple. Ken didn’t understand if this was her punishment. Rosa placed her hands above the woman head.

“I don’t know. I sold it to this guy and I lost him. I swear.” Allen lifted his head and stared dead into her eyes.

“Salina don’t you lie to me. It would be very wise if you were to tell me the truth or I will be forced to do naughty things to you.”

Her eyes shifted to Ken as if pleading for help. He couldn’t help her even if he tried. Allen pierced her cut gripping her breast hard causing her to scream out.

“Please stop. I told you I don’t have it!” Allen leaned closer to her to whisper in her ear.

“You shouldn’t take things that don’t belong to you, Salina.” He licked the side of her face smelling her scent causing his fangs to pop out of his mouth. Rosa sat there and watched him with jealousy in her eyes, but she didn’t dare to stop him.

“I won’t again I promise. Please just let me go. You can take anything you want just don’t kill me.” She begged.

Allen shook his head. “Oh I’m not going to kill you. You are going to get my ring back.”

She shook her head. “I can't fight the mafia men. They will kill me.”

Allen grabbed her throat. “Bitch I will you if you don’t.” She started choking as he put her against the wall. “But I like you, Salina. I think we are going to do some great work together.”

Her eyes widen as she turned to Rosa. “What? No wait!” His mouth opened wider as he took a huge bite into her vein as he began to change her. She screamed horrendously as the venom began to take over her body. She began to violently shake and puke as her body contorted on the ground. Allen held his hands out for Rosa.

“Come we must find shelter before the sun rises.” Rosa looked at Ken.

“What about him?”

Allen shrugged. “He can stay and clean up the mess here and watch her.”

Rosa waited to squat in front of Ken. She pecked his chin and smiled. “I will be back for you tonight.”

Ken wanted to smile, but he didn’t. She left with the monster. Ken turned back to Salina twitching and shaking on the floor. He felt sorry for her as he touched her cheeks.

“It will be over soon.” He soothed as he disappeared to get her a pillow and a blanket. Their eyes never left each other as if Ken was taking her pain away.
