Chris crouched before her, chains clattering with every strained breath he took. His half-human face twisted in hunger, his bloodshot eyes glowing with something feral. His lips peeled back, revealing jagged teeth that dripped saliva, his growl low and guttural.

“Chris,” Selene whispered, her voice trembling, her wrists raw from the chains that bound her. Her tears blurred her vision, but she forced herself to look into his broken eyes. “It’s me. It’s Selene.”
