The cell door slammed, as the guard twisted the lock. The walls hummed faintly, and when Selene reached for the bars, a violent shock ripped through her arm. She hissed, jerking back.

Lena’s eyes narrowed. “Electric.”

Kael cursed under his breath, pacing the cramped space. Jared tested the other side but pulled his hand back just as fast. “They caged us like rats.”

Selene leaned against the wall, her chest heaving. Across the room, Caius lay slumped on the floor, barely conscious.
