On the chat screen was a bright red invitation, filled with cartoon snapshots of me and Joseph walking side by side, capturing only the happy, sweet moments. It was just a normal wedding invitation—how had it become something cruel?
Am I cruel?
If I were truly cruel, I would have kicked Melissa out of the company the first time she sent me those taunting pictures! The lipstick on his collar was Melissa’s favorite shade, and the scent on his cuffs was from the perfume Melissa had personally crafted.
I just couldn’t believe that Joseph would so easily give up on me, on the years we had spent together. But at this moment, it felt like I had lost.
I took a deep breath, struggling to steady my emotions, and spoke softly, “I don’t know what’s wrong with Melissa. All I know is that my wedding, my groom, was ruined because of another woman.”
A flicker of guilt flashed across Joseph’s face as he looked away. “I just went with her for the checkup. It’s not like I wasn’t coming back—I was just going to be late…”
I cut him off. “Is that your reason for abandoning me? Do you really think that’s justified?”
Joseph’s face darkened in anger. “Enough! When you sent that humiliating video to provoke Melissa, didn’t you think about whether it was reasonable to do that to a pregnant woman?”
“You’re coming with me to apologize to Melissa right now! If she doesn’t forgive you, you’ll kneel and beg for forgiveness from her and the baby!”
He was truly furious. He grabbed my wrist so tightly that I thought he might dislocate my arm. His behavior terrified me; he was a stranger now.
Instinctively, I clung to a nearby pillar. A wave of pain surged through me, fueled by my anger and despair.
“Joseph, I’m feeling really unwell. Please let me go.”
Joseph sneered coldly, ignoring my plea as he yanked me harder. “Keep pretending. Let’s see how long you can keep this act up!”
“Melissa was five months pregnant and still went on business trips with me. You’ve been resting at home, doing nothing, and now you’ve learned to put on a show. You disgust me.”
His words hit me like a punch, making my vision blur. He had humiliated me for Melissa. Yet, the taste of blood rising in my throat forced me to stay silent. I was afraid if I opened my mouth, I’d throw up uncontrollably again.
