The morning sunlight shyly slipped through the curtains of Giselle’s room. The air outside felt damp, the remnants of rain still clinging to the leaves. Giselle stared at her reflection in the mirror, noticing the thin bandage still wrapped around her head. She took a deep breath. “I’m feeling much better,” she murmured softly, trying to convince herself.

Aunt Hansel had tried to forbid her from going out, but Giselle was determined. She didn’t want to stay locked up in that mansion any longer, feeling like a prisoner. She needed air, she needed routine—even if it was just to go to campus.
