“Boss…” Allen’s voice cut through the silence as he pulled over beside me.
I exhaled sharply, running a hand through my hair as I turned to him. The car’s headlights illuminated the dimly lit road, casting long shadows across the pavement.
I hadn’t entirely disappeared after leaving Arlene. No, I had been there, lingering in the background, watching as the car drove away with her inside.
