“Hello, sir,” I said as I walked into the office. The police chief was seated in his chair, mulling over some papers when I arrived. He raised his head at the sound of my voice and smiled as he stood to welcome me.
“Thank you for seeing me,” I added, and he shook his head.
“Just doing my job, Mr. Martinez,” he replied, holding out his hand for a handshake. “Have a seat.”
