The first thing I felt was light.
Not the soft kind that eases you gently into a morning, but something sharper, pressing against my eyelids before I'd even fully understood I was alive to feel it at all. I tried to move and found my body slower to respond than my mind, every limb heavy in a way that didn't make sense until I remembered, slowly, in fragments - the hotel room, the drink, the way everything had gone dark before I could understand why.
