My eyes fluttered after what seemed like a lengthy sleep. My consciousness returned and in a disoriented state, I sat upright, sweeping my gaze at the intricate features of the room. The world around me was dark, heavy, as if I was submerged deep underwater.

As I tried to recollect what had happened, a sharp distant beeping cut through the silence, snatching me out of my reverie. The sterile scent of disinfectant lingered in the air, followed by the soft hum of machines.
