"If you're both so concerned with the natural order," I said, "why are you working with each other? Witches and Death Walkers are supposed to be enemies."

Lucy and the creature looked at each other.

"That's a very good question," the creature said slowly.

"We have a common goal," Lucy said quickly.

"Do we?" the creature asked. "You want to eliminate all supernatural creatures. But I AM a supernatural creature."

"You're different," Lucy said, but she sounded less confident now.

"Am I?" the creature asked. "Or are you planning to eliminate me too once I've served your purpose?"

Lucy didn't answer, which was answer enough.
