"Noah," I said slowly. "Look at the lights."
He looked back at the trail of darkness we were leaving behind us.
"You're draining the electricity," he realized.
"It's getting worse," I said in panic. "I'm not just hungry for life energy anymore. I'm hungry for all energy."
A car drove past us. Its engine suddenly died.
The driver got out, confused, and tried to start it again. Nothing.
"We need to move faster," I said.
But as we walked, more lights went out. More car engines died. Even the electronic billboards started flickering and going dark.
