Dale stared at me in the doorway like the words hadn’t finished landing.

“Chloe...” His voice cracked. He took a half step forward. “You’re… you’re pregnant? We’re...”

“No.” I said, cutting him off.

“What?”

“I’m not pregnant.” My voice stayed flat. “Britney is, with your child. She told me tonight. In detail.”

For a second he didn’t move. The color that had started to return to his face drained out again so fast I thought he might actually fall. His hand tightened on the edge of the door until his knuckles went white.
