(Lily POV)
Pain dragged me back to consciousness. Not the fuzzy, distant pain of sedation, but sharp, overwhelming, all-consuming pain that demanded attention.
I was having a baby.
My eyes fluttered open. The warehouse ceiling swam into focus above me, rusted metal beams, flickering fluorescent lights, water stains spreading like dark bruises across concrete.
"She's waking up." A voice I didn't recognize. Male. Accent.
Another contraction hit and I screamed, my back arching off the gurney. The sound echoed in the cavernous space.
"Finally."
That voice I knew. That voice haunted my nightmares.
