The sun was setting over Sasi Mountain in a blaze of color, the forest fire lending the sky deep reds and oranges. I tried to lose myself in the beauty of it-even for a moment-as my government-issued Jeep Cherokee bounced over the rutted road leading to the Yabood Pack house. But my mind wouldn't shut up. Whirling like the smoke in the air, dark and suffocating.
