“Sir??”

Mum turned to me with her eyebrows raised high, that big excited smile still plastered across her face as she glanced between me and Luca.

“Harper, do you know him? You look like you’ve seen a ghost or something. Tell me, have you two met before?”

I shook my head so fast my hair whipped across my cheeks, forcing the lie out even though my throat felt like it was closing up.

“No Mum, I don’t know him at all. I’ve never seen him before in my life.”
