She sat on the edge of the table after, her eyes searching mine with a look that was almost painfully soft. She reached out, her fingers grazing my cheek, and I felt the last of the tension from the day begin to drain away. It was a relief that felt like finally being able to breathe after being underwater for too long. Knowing she didn't judge me—even after the mess I had made with the doctor's granddaughter, was the only thing keeping me upright.
