Every time I saw Elias, the words I had practiced for days seemed to dissolve in my throat. I needed to tell him about Halter—about the embezzlement, the Scott Enterprise connection, and the threat on his life. But since he and Mara had returned to the mansion yesterday, I couldn't find a single moment where he wasn't shielded by her presence.
