“Mira" told me that is why you got drunk last night because you wanted to drink away the pain of having to live with your stepfather.”

A laugh barrels its way out of me as I stared at my mom's guilty face. I should have known she wouldn't leave without causing more damage.

“She is a terrible liar, mom; she knows how to guilt-trip anyone into believing all her lies.”

“I don't understand what you are trying to say.” Mom frowned, and I looked down at my hands.

Saying everything again pains me, but I had to let my mom know the truth, so she won't blame herself....
