Candy quickly confronts her daddy for allowing her to go with Kenneth back to M City.
"Dad, can we talk?"
"Sure honey, have you packed your things?"
“That’s exactly why I want to talk to you, Dad. Why did you agree to let me go with that stranger?”
"Candy, Kenneth is not strangers anymore, we are family now."
"I can't accept that Dad and I will never."
His father's smile faded and the sadness was seen in his eyes. Candy suddenly felt guilty about what she had said to her father.
"Sorry Dad, I know that Karen is your wife now, but we don't fully know that Kenneth yet."
"I believe and trust in Karen's word that he is a gentle and good man."
"But Dad—"
“Let’s stop this argument, Candy. Get ready to leave. You will spend the night on the road.” After saying this he turned around and walked towards the remaining guests to entertain again.
On one side of the garden, she saw Karen and Kenneth talking. Karen turned her eyes at her from time to time, for sure the two were talking about her. She turned away, not wanting to see the two cousins planning how to remove her from her own father's path.
"Let's go."
Candy was surprised when she heard the serious tone of Kenneth's voice. She was not even aware that it was approaching because of the depth of her thought.
She ignored it and never dare to move in her place.
“I said let’s go or maybe you want me to carry you to put in the car. You know that I can easily do that,” he said sarcastically.
"Don’t bother, I have my own feet." Candy stepped heavily into Kenneth's car.
He immediately opened the door to the passenger seat so that she could board. She was about to board when she saw Richard's car parked in front of them. Perhaps it came back to fetch his parents.
Candy momentarily lost the power to talk. Her eyes were wide and fixed, her mouth trembling slightly as she looked at Richard. In her mind, she wants to talk to him… she wants to hear his reason… she wants to know why he leaves her and exchange her for her cousin, Stella.
But even before Candy could take a step to face Richard, she heard Kenneth's low but strong voice close to her ear.
“Don't go ahead with your plan Candy. Don't embarrass yourself.”
Candy suddenly turned in Kenneth's direction angrily, she was even surprised when she faced him, their faces were just an inch away. She returned it with a sharp stare, which was met by a threatening stare.
"Get in the car," he ordered.
Candy let out a deep sigh before rushing into the car. Kenneth immediately walked to the driver's side and quickly got on. He later started the car's engine, after blowing the horn once as a farewell to the people present, he carefully maneuvered out of the yard.
They were a few meters away from their house when Candy couldn't stop herself from crying. Sadly, she was forced to leave their house… the house where she grew up, where she built her dreams. And her Daddy, the only person she has been with and sympathizes with since her mommy died. Now that she has a new wife, he doesn't need her anymore and on the very day of his wedding, he let her be with the person she didn't want to be with at all. And most of all the pain caused by Richard’s infidelity. Why he entered into a new relationship without even formally breaking up with her? He didn't even take into account their many years of love and affection. However, she could not blame Richard solely because she also had shortcomings in it.
"You will be okay. Eventually, you will forget him,” for the first time she heard Kenneth speak in a soft voice. He reached her cheek and gently wiped away her tears. Candy felt the sincerity of it, yet still could not dispel the anger and annoyance she felt for him because it interfered in her life. She was aware though that it saved her pride by pretending that they were in a relationship.
Candy and Kenneth never spoke again during the long trip. Candy was surprised when she felt Kenneth tapping her cheek.
"Candy, wake up… we are here."
Candy, on the other hand, was stunned, she didn't realize that she was asleep on their trip.
"I'm sorry, I fell asleep."
"It's okay, let's go inside the house."
Candy quickly opened the car door before Kenneth could turn to the passenger side. She didn't need its gentleman gesture, all she had to do was get away from him, get away from this house.
They are about to enter this huge mansion when a maid immediately meets them to pick up Candy's luggage.
"Belen, please just follow her luggage to her room," he ordered and the maid responded quickly.
"Yes, sir." Then it seemed embarrassed to look at her and hesitant to smile.
“This is Belen, Candy. She is leaving with us and there are two other helpers. So stopping feeling awkward in the reality that we are not leaving alone here.”
"Don't be ashamed to ask help when you need something," Belen said calmly, full of respect.
“Thank you, but I can take care of myself. I'm used to doing house chores.”
"You are here as a guest not as a maid," Kenneth said emphatically. "Let them do their job." He didn't wait for Candy to speak, he entered the house first.
Candy did nothing but follow him. When he reached the middle of the stairs he stopped and faced her.
"The first door on the right side will be your room." After a brief instruction, he proceeded to go up the stairs.
Candy even hesitated to set foot on the first step of the stairs. Is there really nothing she can do in these moments but follow everything Kenneth wants. She suddenly blamed his daddy in her mind, if he hadn't agreed to let Kenneth take her here to his house she wouldn't have had a problem now.
