I didn't go home with my father. After he'd appeared in the street, wild-eyed and desperate, Liam had somehow talked him down. Convinced him that running blindly into the night wasn't a plan, it was a death sentence. My father had reluctantly agreed to wait, to let us think, to give us until morning.
But morning brought something worse.
The black SUVs rolled into Millfield High's parking lot at exactly 8:47 AM, just as the first period was starting. Four of them, tinted windows, government plates. Men and women in dark suits emerged, moving with military precision. I watched from my classroom window, my blood turning to ice....
