POV: Liam

"We split up," Daniel said, already moving toward the back exit. "They can't chase all of us at once."

"No way," I said. "We stay together."

"Together, we're caught in minutes. Separated, at least some of us escape." He looked at Maya with something like lucidity breaking through his madness. "I'll go with the boy. We'll lead them south toward the city. You two head north. Cross the border if you can."

"Dad, I can't just leave you.."

"You can and you will." He grabbed her shoulders, and for a moment, he looked almost sane. Almost like the man he must have been before the experiments broke him....
