I just found out that my supposed best friend's mother passed away and this has to be the worst news I have gotten in a very long time. Her mom has been sick and both of us were supposed to go see her but unfortunately I left and now May has to go through the pain all by herself. I hate it so much that such a thing has to happen.
“She’s never going to forgive me.” I muttered to myself while thinking about the struggles she would have to go through all by herself.
I sat there still staring at the message in my phone with a blank head because I didn’t know the reply to give or how to handle the situation, I can’t go to her right now which is even more hurtful.
“I hate myself right now.” I whispered and laid back on the bed.
******
Few hours later.
I was still in my room, I didn’t know how I was feeling but what I know is that I definitely wasn’t feeling good.
“Liana.” I heard my mom’s voice calling me from the corridor outside my room, I couldn’t respond because I was still feeling down.
She opened the door and walked closer to me.
“Hey princess.” I can’t believe she’s adopted that stupid title so fast, but right now I don’t have the energy to argue or fight her, I just want to sleep and forget about everything.
“What’s going on? You don’t look happy.” My mom asked the moment she noticed I wasn’t protesting against being called a princess, she knows how much I hate it.
“She lost her mom.” My mom looked confused for a moment when she heard what I said.
“What are you talking about? Who lost her mom? And why are you so sad about it?”
“May.” My mom closed her mouth the moment she understood what I was talking about.
“Oh my goodness, that little girl.”
“I’m such a horrible friend, I left when she needed me the most.” I said while struggling not to cry.
“Why are you blaming yourself? It’s not your fault, she’s been sick for a long time, stop blaming yourself for her death.” My mom tried talking to me to calm down.
I couldn’t calm down because I know that May would he going through a lot by herself, she has no friends around there because she hates meeting new people, now living without me would be very hard for her.
“I can’t stop blaming myself.” I said to my mom in a whisper as tears finally welled down my eyes. She patted my head softly before leaving, I guess she was trying to give me space to think but little did she know she was worsening things because I really need someone to talk to right now.
After spending some time on the bed I finally summoned the courage to reply to her message.
“We moved again.” That was the only thing I could send to her. I didn't even know what to tell her about her mom’s death.
I skipped breakfast but I can’t skip lunch because I was really hungry.
I stood up from the bed and walked out of the room to eat and get fresh air. I can’t be in the room all day, I need tj take my mind off this bad news.
The moment I got out of the room the first person I saw was Jace. I ignored him and looked away immediately as I continued walking downstairs.
I sat down on the dinner the moment I got downstairs.
“Dad, I can’t believe he’s having lunch with us, why are you tolerating him?” Have asked angrily.
“Stop this drama Jace, you’re embarrassing right now.” I was really hoping not to see such drama when I got out of the room but unfortunately that’s the first thing I saw.
“Really, I am embarrassing ? What was I expecting from a man who was suddenly bright in a woman and her daughter without telling me anything first.” I was about to take a bite when I heard what he said and I suddenly felt like throwing up, that was really offensive to me.
His dad made a gesture to hit him but my mom stopped him acting like a pushover which is something I hate to see.
I angrily stood up and stormed out of the house.
*******
While I was sitting down at the other side of the house even though I was upset I can’t deny that the atmosphere was so chill that I almost forgot I was upset minutes ago.
“You should have ignored him.” I heard a masculine voice say to me, I turned back immediately and just like it happened earlier I didn’t see anyone behind me. I stood up and started looking around the environment. The same thing happened earlier and I thought I was hallucinating, it feels like there’s someone messing with my head.
I couldn’t stay outside anymore so I headed back into the house.
“Watch it!” He yelled angrily the moment he bumped into me.
“I should be the one telling you that,” I said to him angrily.
“You really think you’re now something just because you were given the princess title?” I wasn’t having a good day and right now is not the best time to have any argument with him, I walked away without waiting to hear what more he has to say.
He looked shocked to see me walk away like that. I was so hungry because I couldn’t even have lunch, when I got back to the room I sat on the bed and looked at the window side of the room, then I noticed there was a sort of package there.
I stood up immediately to go check what it was, there was a bite by the side. I couldn’t help but sigh when I saw the message, I guess I was supposed to be happy about it but instead I felt burdened.
My supposed stepdad left a note on my lunch tray. It felt good to have someone to care about and but I didn’t feel good about it because I’m yet to accept this whole new life thing.
I opened the food and it was still hot, he had them make my breakfast, guess he got the tip from my mom.
This is my favorite food and there’s no way I’m not eating it.
*******
It was already getting dark, so I checked my phone again to see if there’s any messages from May, but there were none. I decided to call her but then I noticed I had been blocked. I guess she was too upset and then she ended up blocking me from calling her. I wasn’t happy about it but there’s nothing I could do.
This is a whole new lifestyle and even though it’ll take time to digest it, I guess I will have to accept it.
While I was sitting on the bed I heard a knock on the door, I wanted to ignore it but it didn’t seem like mom so I had to get the door, I guess she’s the only one I really don’t want to speak to right now.
“Hey.” I was beyond shocked to see Jace in my room.
“Hi.” I said softly, waiting to hear what he has to say, hopefully he doesn’t try to pick a fight.
“I’m here to apologize. Earlier, I was too upset with dad and ended up transferring my aggression at you and your mom, I didn’t mean what I said and I hope you try and….
“I’m not mad at you.” I cut in immediately. Earlier I could tell he was hurt which is why he sounded that way, I was only mad at the fact that he wasn’t wrong and my mom acting like a pushover just like she always.
“Okay, if you’re less busy, I want to show you something.” I thought about it for a moment and decided to go with him, I know that right now i can’t trust him, but I don’t think he’ll hurt me.
We walked out of the house and after a short walk we got to the water side and from that angle the sky looked so beautiful, I have never seen the sky lol Sh beautiful. I sat down on the floor to enjoy the view even better.
“I noticed you were moody earlier, especially when you didn’t bother arguing with me, I found out there was something bothering you, so I decided to apologize and bring you here. This place is my healing place, it feels good everything I’m here. I hope it works for you too.” I was suddenly seeing the sweet side of Jace which is something I never even imagined because he’s been extra mean towards me.
He smiled really bright then I realized it’s the first time I’m seeing him look so happy, he’s usually always moody.
“My best friend’s mom died today, and I couldn’t even stay by her side, I hate myself so much right now.” I don’t know why I was being so transparent to him, I guess I really needed someone to speak to.
“So, what are you doing here?” For a moment I was confused when I heard the question.
“What?”
