Another of Astor’s major investors called, expressing concerns about the recent rumors surrounding the estate.

“I’ve heard troubling things,” the investor said. “Moral concerns that make it difficult for me to continue our partnership.”

Astor clenched his jaw, his mind immediately going to Susan.

“I assure you, these rumors are baseless,” Astor said, struggling to maintain his composure.

“I hope so,” the investor replied. “But until this is resolved, I’m pulling out of the deal.”
