Ace was speeding. He was usually an extremely safe driver. After the car accident when I was fifteen, it took me a while to feel safe riding in a car again.

For a while after, I was terrified any car journey would end with me waking up in another hospital, with no recollection of how I’d got there, in the most horrific pain of my life.

There were times when Ace took that fear very seriously and drove like a grandma.

But I’d obviously got him more worked up because he was barely pausing at the stop signs.

The world moved past us in a blur, making my heart race....
