"I remember he said this: 'Before, Amelia was not obedient at all; not only did she kick me, but she also jumped into the sea playing suicide. Later, I tied her up, and she became obedient.'

If I'm not mistaken, his sentence means that Amelia disabled him by kicking him before she jumped into the sea.

But if she did jump into the sea and die, then how did Jared manage to tie her up?
