Naomi’s Pov
The morning after felt heavier than the night before, like my body hadn’t caught up with everything my mind had lived through. Sleep didn’t help. I kept waking up, seeing flashes of the docks, the way Cassian grabbed me, the way his voice cracked when he said I split him open.
I washed my face twice, but it didn’t wash away the memory of him standing close, breathing like he was trying not to let the whole world out of his chest.
When I finally stepped out of my room, the house was too quiet. The kind of quiet that made you feel like someone had gone around...
