The date locked in faster than I expected.
Three days.
That’s how long they gave themselves before putting me in front of a room full of people who had spent years avoiding responsibility. Three days to prepare questions that would look neutral and feel sharp. Three days for others to decide how exposed they were willing to be.
Rubio read the confirmation twice.
“They’re moving quickly.”
“They’re scared,” Mara said.
