The room was small and intimate. Nothing of the large, imposing dining room Eden had expected. 

Lord Hadleigh, seated by the fireplace, got up and put down the book he was holding.

-Good evening, Miss. Chase.

That smile, again. It seemed, decidedly, that he smiled willingly, and his playful tone relaxed the atmosphere considerably. 

Eden felt that, under any other circumstances, she would have willingly flirted with him. 

Yet, despite the discomfort of her situation, she did not feel threatened by him at all.
