To Eden's surprise, the day passed very quickly. 

She stayed deep in thought all morning, trying to remember the events that had preceded her mother's departure. 

The more she thought about it, the more she realized that Ian's interpretation might be right. 

Eden vaguely remembered hearing arguments and her mother sobbing at night. 

When she had come to kiss her children goodbye, her eyes had been very red.

 How sad she must have been to leave them, she thought, a protective hand resting on her stomach. 

And who was this mysterious man? Maybe Mom was still alive somewhere? But her instincts told her no.
