The following second was spent on me mustering up every last bit of strength I had so that I would not cry here in front of Julian. I didn't want to cause him any additional anxiety than he already had. I've already caused him more than enough trouble with the conflicts that happened in the ballroom.

The car came to a stop when we got to a sidewalk that was close to the water and overlooked the Manhattan Bridge, which took me by surprise. Julian threw his head back against the seat before I could ask him a question.
