I sat on a boulder and stared at the campfire. The flames burnt fiercely, waves of hot gas jarring my vision. I glanced around the camp. Tents had been set up and some soldiers took turns keeping watch.

He sat next to me and stared at the sky. "The sky is so dark. Thank heavens for the stars."
