“How does that make you feel?” The Shaman continued to ask.

“I feel empty, incomplete and useless.” Jake started breaking into tears.

The Shaman signed as sadness and dread sipped into his heart. This was real trouble. Trouble that could cost them their lives. He kept his composure because he wasn't one to show distress that easily.

“Take the drug I gave you and go to sleep. Everything will be fine.” The Shaman patted Jake on the shoulder before turning to leave the room. Neither Jake nor his father were stupid. Something had happened, and the Shaman wasn't going to say it....
