I should have left with the rest of the crew.

Instead I stayed behind to finish the final walkthrough checklist on the Crestview penthouse, the same way I had every night for the last three weeks. The place was almost done new hardwood, custom millwork, floor-to-ceiling glass that looked out over the city but the client kept changing his mind about the finishes, and someone had to stay late to make sure nothing got missed. That someone was usually me.
