I woke up that morning with a strange feeling in my chest. It was not fear. It was not worry. It felt like I was forgetting something important but I could not remember what it was.
Kayden was already awake. He was sitting on the edge of the bed. He was buttoning his shirt. When he noticed I was watching him, he smiled softly.
“Good morning,” he said.
“Good morning,” I replied. I was still studying him.
He leaned down and kissed my forehead. His lips lingered a little longer than usual and I felt warmth spread through me.
