I began to contact my former landlord, Mrs. Smith, in the hope of renting her house again.

Luckily, Mrs. Smith was very happy to have me back. After all, I had never missed any rent or behaved badly during the time I had rented her house.

Mrs. Smith even complained to me, "Gosh, Eleanor, your presence is godsent. Ever since you left, I've had only horrible tenants. The couple who rented my house was terrible! They made a mess of the place and when they finally left, they left nothing but junk at the house!"
