When Fililio introduced Alex to Chieo; the latter gave Alex with such penetrating look as if trying to bare Alex’s inner soul before offering his hand for a handshake.

Alex accepted the offered hand of Chieo and tried to smile even if he could sense such indifference that the man obviously has towards him.
