The house felt too quiet once again after Mom and Dad left for their little post-Paris rounds — dropping off souvenirs to friends, promising to be back before evening.
I should’ve felt relaxed, but instead, there was this restless energy inside me. Maybe it was the hormones settling, maybe it was guilt from the argument, or maybe it was just the silence that made me think too much.
I wandered through the house, checking every room, every familiar corner.
“Jax?” I called out softly.
No answer.
His bedroom was empty — bed half-made, window cracked open to let the breeze in. The faint smell of his cologne still lingered....
