My stomach twisted the moment Jaxon asked that question.

“Are you pregnant?”

It hung in the air like smoke, heavy and impossible to ignore. I stared at him, trying to think, to breathe — but my mind felt blank.

“I— I don’t know,” I finally said, my voice small. “I mean, I’ve been late before but not this late.”

Jaxon ran his hands through his hair, pacing a few steps in front of the couch. “Okay, okay, calm down. It’s fine. We’ll figure it out.”

“I am calm,” I said, though my hands were shaking.

He gave me a quick look. “You’re not.”
