My room in Mom's house was cozy with soft pink walls and a big bed piled high with pillows. The door was shut, but I could still hear the muffled voices from the sitting room down the hall—Kendra and Caleb chatting away, all lovey-dovey, sharing stories and laughing softly. They weren't making out or anything wild; just cuddling close on the couch, his arm around her shoulders, her head on his chest as they talked about their day. Ezra was tapping away on his phone, probably scrolling through memes or whatever kept him quiet.
Jaxon had slipped into my room some minutes ago. I couldn't take the tension anymore...
